In Edmonton we have a significant supply of well built bungalows from the 1950′s & 1960′s that populate older desirable neighbourhoods. These homes have basic structural elements that are sound, but certain functional components are reaching the end of their expected life cycle. Often the layout and size don’t meet modern tastes and expectations. By fully retrofitting the functional components and adding a second story to the floor plan we can address both of these deficiencies and create a product that looks and performs like a new home without taking on the energy debt that is created with a complete knockdown and rebuild. While reuse requires innovation and flexibility it does not require compromise on design or performance.
A secondary but substantial additional benefit is the opportunity to revitalize established neighbourhoods. The City of Edmonton has a stated goal of developing infill to a volume that competes with suburban development. Reconstruction has cost, timeline and impact advantages that makes infill construction accessible to more home buyers. By reusing the existing structure we shorten construction timelines, reduce disruption to neighbours and communities and reduce overall costs. These efficiencies will help Edmonton to promote and encourage development that takes advantage of existing civil infrastructure; electrical, water, sewer, roads and schools to name a few.
In construction it can be difficult to firmly establish a specialization. There is a reason why the title of “General” contractor has stuck around; we typically don’t turn down work simply because it doesn’t fit within our pre-conceived identity and a capable contractor has a wide variety of opportunities. At our best we are problem solvers. To remain the best these solutions are varied, creative and complete, borrowing from past experience and looking toward future potentials.
EcoLogic Builders Inc. was established to pursue effective, intelligent residential design, development and reconstruction. While building toward our specialized goal we have had the opportunity to work on theatres, restaurants, post offices, gas stations, offices and houses. This wide variety of experience now provides a significant and diverse foundation for further developing our original goal of economically sound, environmentally conscious residential construction.
Incorporated in May of 2007 as a residential and light commercial general contractor, EcoLogic Builders Inc. has since successfully completed over 350 projects in the field. These have ranged from small residential work including basements and decks to full house renovations, second storey additions, new residential builds and commercial projects that include recognizable clients such as; Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire, Canada Post, Parks Canada, The City of Edmonton and most recently The Needle Vinyl Tavern. Each job is designed and built to specifically address the situational needs of both the project and the customer.
